All over Scotland between June and september at weekends, athletes from track and field sports gather to compete on grass for money prizes, events include 90 mtr sprints, 200 mtr sprints, 400mtrs, 800 mtrs, 1600 mtrs, 3200 mtrs, hill racing, cycle racing, heavy events like hammer throwing, caber tossing, 28lb weight over the bar, highland dance competitions, pipe band competitions, lots of athletes dressed in kilts, these weekend competitions date back well over 100 years and are still thriving, at the end of the season (Sept.) Braemar highland gathering is blessed by the presence of Royalty ( The Royal Family), the Queen and Prince Philip, and there families, the biggest event of all is probably the boxing day meeting at Musselburgh racecourse which was formerly held at Meadowbank stadium in Edinburgh (The famous New year Sprint).
