Current Gallery: walls ( piece)
Compositions of torn posters, peeling and splashed paint, graffiti, sheet metal, rust, corrosion, grunge, graphic compositions, and objects on and in front of walls. Basically any images involving a wall. In the 1970's, I was one of the few photographers doing Fine Art color. I approached many galleries in Manhattan at that time and they would not take a color photographer on because color prints faded. Finally one, the Alonzo Gallery on West 57th St. accepted my work and I was represented by Jack Alonzo for many years. My work was shown in numerous New York City and regional exhibitions, including the corporate offices of Nabisco Brands. At that time, I met my long time friend, Allan Ludwig who has his PHd in Art History from Yale. He calls me a "pioneer" of fine art color. That may be true, but I was never really discovered, or broke through. As they say "C'est la vie". Many of the images you see here are from the original negatives and transparencies shot back in the 70's. The color has held up because I took extra precautions then, by putting them through a formaldehyde bath, then storing them in plastic sleeves archivally. The result is, the images, thought sometimes 40 years old, are as fresh as they day they were made. That is quite a feat for photographs of that period. In any case, limited edition, signed, fine art prints of the work you see in this gallery are for sale in galleries and by dealers across the country for $900 for a print on 17"X22"paper, and $650 for a print on 13"X19" paper. The prices here are approximately 1/10th of that because they are unsigned, not numbered, and printed by a third party. Still, there is a lot of value in them and they will make unique statements in any environment. Pleas note. I strongly object to prints made on Epson Enhanced Matte paper. It is about the poorest paper on the market. It literally sucks the life out of images. Choose anything else. My preferences are: black and white should be printed on a mat surface fine art paper, and color on a photographic paper as it produces much more color saturation.
